Networks are the backbone of every company, and skilled network engineers are always in demand. Cisco certifications are one of the clearest ways to grow in this field.
Level 1: CCNA
The Cisco Certified Network Associate (200-301) covers the fundamentals every network engineer needs:
- Network fundamentals (20%)
- Network access: VLANs, switching, wireless (20%)
- IP connectivity: routing and OSPF (25%)
- IP services: DHCP, NAT, NTP (10%)
- Security fundamentals (15%)
- Automation and programmability (10%)
Level 2: CCNP Enterprise
To earn CCNP Enterprise you pass two exams:
- The core exam, ENCOR (350-401): advanced routing and switching, wireless, security and automation.
- One concentration exam of your choice, for example ENARSI (300-410) for advanced routing.
Skills that grow with you
- Advanced routing and switching
- SDN and network automation
- Network security
- Troubleshooting and optimization
Tips
- Lab every day. Use Packet Tracer or a virtual lab and configure things yourself.
- Learn some Python for network automation. It is part of both exams.
- Want to know other vendors too? Juniper's JNCIA-Junos is a good addition.
